Protest is women’s right and all citizens’ right. Yet to date, those protesting the State policies on the street are detained in Police cells. During protests on 25 Agustus to 1 September 2025, 10 people died, 3,337 people detained by the Police, 1,042 people were injured and rushed to hospitals, 20 of the 23 people were still missing, and 60 violence cases against journalists. President Prabowo Subianto did not respond to people’s demand, instead he promoted those Police officers involved in violence while labelling the protests as “act of terrorism and rebellion” without extending any apologies to families of victims killed by the Police. Not only that, security officers also conducted sweeping in campuses and detaining students.

The higher the education institution, the less participation of people with disability. This reflects structural challenges at higher education. Hence, the Disability Service Unit (AYL) is there to facilitate inclusion in higher education including amongst lecturers that would allow for better quality of education for people with disability.

There are seven strategic objectives of the District Disability Action Plan – data collection and inclusive planning, barrier-free environment for people with disability, inclusive economy, protection of rights and access to justice, empowerment and independence of people with disability, education and skills, and access to public health services for all. Certainly there are challenges and opportunities in the implementation.

During an Public Indonesian Radio broadcast (RRI Pro 1 Surakarta) by Aditya Wardhana, on Tuesday (12/8), the Director of the Centre for Community-Based Development, Training and Rehabilitation (PPRBM) Solo and Advisor for Local Disability Commission, Sunarman Sukamto said that only none out of 100 people with disability in Surakarta had Family Hope Social Aid Program. Moreover, only 60 percent of people with disability could not get access to information regarding the social aid, particularly the Family Hope Program. They simply had difficulty accessing it because they had limitations.
