Many people often thought that Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) was simply a medical issue. When a person was HIV positive, what came to mind was laboratory test, antiretroviral drugs, and regular visits to health facilities. Yet, for those living with HIV, the fact was much more complicated. They not only had to deal with the virus, but also with fear, stigma, rejection, and often loneliness.

People with Lupus (Odapus) often faced challenges not only related to health, but also stigma and the lack of understanding/knowledge in communities. Although people with Lupus looked healthy physically, many of them had to struggle with chronic pain, extreme fatigue, and issues with their bodily organs which other people may not notice at all.This situation was a reason for Lupus to be labelled as invisible disability which people often ignored.

Community Service Program within the Sociology Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Science Sebelas Maret University (UNS) opened new spaces for people with disability to develop their capacity and their business. The activity was part of the Freedom to Study at Freedom Campus program (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka or MBKM) and was designed not only as academic activities, but also as measures to ensure real impacts in community.

A warm and enthusiastic atmosphere was apparent in the opening of gender-perspective training organised by DPC PWKI in the City of Surakarta in collaboration with Yayasan Yekti Angudi Piadeging Hukum Indonesia (YAPHI), on Monday (8/6/2026). The activity took place at Anawim Hall, Yayasan YAPHI as a first of three training meetings designed to strengthen participants’ capacity in understanding gender issue and accompaniment of victims of violence.
