The Indonesian Legal Aid (YLBHI-LBH) Yogyakarta received a letter informing of the Yogyakarta Police decision to stop the investigation on Meila Nurul Fajriah, a YLBHI lawyer, on Tuesday, 6 August 2024.

The Police charged Meila for defamation re. Article 27 Point 3 in conjunction to Article 45 Point 3 of the Information and Electronic Transaction Law. The Coalition believed that the charge was an attempt to criminalse Meila and a serious attack on women human rights defenders and victim of sexual violence.

On Wednesday 7/8, the Civil Society Coalition for Security Reform conducted a hearing with the National Human Rights Commissioner(s) on government revision of the Armed Forces and Police Laws. The Coalition presented its review and opinions regarding the discussion being held the President and the Parliament regarding the Armed Forces and Police Laws, which, in the Coalition’s view, infringed on the established procedure for law preparation, and on the principles of human rights and democracy.

There were issues confronting the Civil Society Coalition for Women and Children (Komasipera) – a coalition established to respond to actual issues, cases and urgent calls in communities in order to meet the human rights of citizens. This was expressed by Vera Kartika Giantari during a Komasivera discussion on 18/7.
