During a press conference by the Indonesian Women’s Coalition moderated by Mike Verawati on Tuesday (17/06), Nursyahbani Katjasungkana states that she tolerates one version of history writing. For 32 years, the people have been fed with information on 1965 incident by the military – a version of the State interpretation of political event. She also suggests that the Indonesian government denies the rape in May 1998 as the report and its attachments were presented at the United Nations Assembly.

Contectual Educationis context-oriented education, which is nothing new as it has been implemented by Islamic Schools to prepare students for life. Other religions have similar education – i.e. Pastoral Schools within the Catholic religion. The base of Contextual Education is students’ experience, not lessons.

Mike Verawati says that the objective of the press conference is to respond to Fadli Zon’s interview with Uni Lubis who states that rape in May 1998 is nothing but rumour. Mike says that the Rape tragedy in May 1998is not fiction, and cannot be ignored just because there is no significant data.
